Deb Perkins has always been interested in art but between raising a family, teaching high school biology, and acting in independent film and community theatre, just couldn't find the time. While shopping, she stopped at the display table to look at the classes offered and decided Lola's Art Class had the right times and the most variety and, the rest as they say, is history.

Vicki Neilon has lived on Ocean Isle Beach for fourteen years with her husband, Terry. She is a recent retiree from the Brunswick County Schools after having taught in the county for ten years. Being retired, Vicki sought out a local artist, Lola Jackson, to get her artist feet back into the water. Lola has inspired her by renewing her passion for painting and helped her to paint with a critical eye. In 1974, while being stationed in Hawaii, Vicki trained with Joe Dawson, a local artist who launched her on a professional career as she sold local scenes. She also honed her artistic talent in Hawaii by taking classes from a nationally known artist, Sue Schwee Brown. After a military move to Sierra Vista, Arizona, she took the opportunity to learn from another award-winning artist , Dale Boatman. One of the highlights of her painting career was when she spent two weeks learning from the renown artist, Priscilla Hauser, who taught her decorative painting. Then instead of selling local Hawaiian or southwestern scenes, Vicki was selling decorative art work. The teaching bug bit again and it was another ten years before she seriously got back to her artwork, thanks to a wonderful local artist and teacher, Lola Jackson.Vicki has also taken watercolor classes with two nationally known and award-winning artists--Tony Van Hassalt and Sterling Edwards. What an amazing experience painting under their tutelage! Now painting full-time, Vicki has begun to enter local art shows. Loving retirement, Vicki can now enjoy and follow her artistic passion. Her motto is,

FRANCES HAS A MISTY STYLE, WORKING IN ACRYLIC

KATHY WORKS IN ACRYLIC AND PASTELS
